Seligman Traditional and Roth IRAs

Investing in an Individual Retirement Account is a powerful way to build wealth for retirement.

  • Contribute up to $5,000 of earned income for 2009, plus $5,000 on behalf of a non-working spouse
  • An additional $1,000 in "catch-up contributions" permitted for individuals age 50 and over for 2009
  • Seligman IRA custodial fees waived for accounts of at least $10,000 (normally $20 annual custodial fee)

Your financial advisor can help you choose which type of IRA is best for your situation.

  • Traditional IRA contributions may be tax-deductible, and investments grow tax-deferred.
  • Roth IRA contributions are not tax-deductible, they grow on a tax-deferred basis – and qualified distributions are tax-free. Roth contributions may be limited by your income level.

Taxes and penalties may apply for non-qualified IRA withdrawals. Please consult a qualified financial or tax advisor for details and restrictions, or see IRS Publication 590: Individual Retirement Arrangements.

Seligman Education Savings Accounts

Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) offer:

  • Contributions of up to $2,000 per year per beneficiary
  • Flexibility – tax-free withdrawals for primary and secondary school expenses, in addition to college
  • Exceptions for Special Needs Students

You do not need to have earned income to contribute to an ESA, but if you do have earned income, your contributions may be limited by your income level. Taxes and penalties may apply for non-qualified withdrawals. Please consult a qualified financial or tax advisor for details and restrictions.
